A Note To Parents.
When your kids start to drive, don’t forget to teach them that cars need maintenance. It’s easy to forget, or to take it for granted that they will learn this by osmosis. They might hear you mention dropping the car off at the workshop; they might overhear a conversation with your spouse about the SUV needing new brakes, or there being a lightbulb out on your hatchback, but they may not ever register these incidental snippets of information as being important or relevant to them. Once they are in charge of cars of their own, they need to know, so it makes good sense to teach them this explicitly.
I highly recommend introducing them to your mechanic/technician, showing them the service sticker on the windscreen, and making sure they know that the machine that gets them from A to B needs servicing at regular intervals or a breakdown and big repair bill is inevitable at some point.
You don’t want them having to deal with something like:
– losing their brakes or steering and having an accident
– getting stranded a long way from home
– experiencing a catastrophic (and very expensive) engine failure …
Servicing is key, not only to comfort and reliability, but to motoring safety!
Some youngsters, driving some vehicles, can be taught how to do some basic checks themselves, and that can be a fun thing to do together. It’s important to know your limitations, though, and modern cars are becoming increasingly difficult to take care of at home (except by your friendly, local mobile mechanic, of course).
Servicing is essential to smooth motoring. Make sure your youngsters know.
